As the COVID-19 economic effect of the shutdown unfolds, the live event and nightlife industry will be among the hardest hit. Even after the lockdown ends, the ban on "mass gatherings" is unlikely to be lifted for some time. This affects tens of thousands of people.
In the short-term, the hardest hit will be the lowest paid hourly workers. Barman, waiters, technical company setup crews, décor company setup crews, security officers, cleaners, fencing staff and more. The list is exhaustive and the effect catastrophic.
Thousands of these staff who in most cases are the main or only breadwinner of their household, will find themselves almost instantly with no income. In a very short span of time, no income will mean no food.
SAFE, in partnership with Pick 'n Pay Feed The Nation and a number of event industry leaders intends to support these people in their greatest time of need by providing food vouchers to them. These SAFE vouchers will allow them to go to their nearest Pick 'n Pay and get a hamper of essentials.

Each voucher will be for a specific basket of items that will cost
- SAFE R500.00 including VAT. This basket can feed a family of 5 for a month
The above will include a combination of the below essentials:
- Rice 5kg
- Maize 5kg
- Oil 2L
- Sugar 2,5kg
- Pilchards 6's
- Peanut butter
- Tea 100's
- Samp & Bean mix
- Split Peas
- Packets of soup (5 pkts)
- Powdered Milk
- Potatoes 3/4kg
- Onions 4kg
- Soap
SAFE will work with nightlife and event supply chain companies who would ordinarily employ these staff. With their help SAFE will quickly and effectively find those affected most and deliver these vouchers via their employers or ex-employers urgently."
